The Sheriff’s Civil Division is one of the Sheriff’s state mandated duties. Its primary function is to be a neutral party that oversees the civil enforcement process in accordance with NYS laws, for which the Sheriff creates policy. This office administrates various enforcement instruments, such as income executions to satisfy money judgments, or warrants of eviction after summary proceedings. In addition, this office serves a large volume of civil process for any requesting party, including courts, attorneys and private individuals. Historically, this office handles over $2,000,000 a year, a portion of which helps offset its operating costs.
