The NYSSA SAFE CHILD Card Program is a free public service administered by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, Inc., in partnership with the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office. Our agency is proud to participate in this important initiative to help protect children and provide peace of mind to families in our community.
How It Works:
Using state-of-the-art digital fingerprinting technology and high-resolution photography, the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office can produce a SAFE CHILD Card for your child in less than two minutes. This card includes:
-
Your child’s name and biographical information (date of birth, gender, height, weight, hair color, eye color, and other identifying details).
-
A high-quality fingerprint image of both index fingers.
-
A photograph of your child.
The compact card is designed to be easily carried in a wallet or purse, ensuring that critical information is always accessible.
What Is the Purpose of the Program?
The goal of the SAFE CHILD Card Program is to provide parents and guardians with a valuable tool to help keep their children safe. In the unfortunate event that a child goes missing, the card provides law enforcement with essential information to quickly and effectively respond.
The program also supports the NYS AMBER Alert and Missing Child Alert systems by enabling the rapid dissemination of critical details, increasing the chances of a safe and swift recovery.
Why Is It Important?
-
The SAFE CHILD Card ensures that parents have immediate access to their child’s most up-to-date information, including fingerprints and a photograph.
-
In an emergency, this information can be shared with law enforcement agencies statewide, significantly improving the likelihood of locating a missing child.
-
The program also serves as an opportunity to educate families about child safety and prevention.
