STOP FOR SCHOOL BUSES

Updated: Mar 29

We’ve seen a troubling increase in motorists illegally passing school buses while their stop lights are activated. This dangerous behavior puts our children’s lives at risk, and it needs to STOP.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀:

In New York, passing a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing is illegal and carries severe penalties. First-time offenders face fines of up to $400, while repeat offenders can be fined up to $1000 and risk losing their driver’s license for up to 6 months. In cases where a child is injured or killed, drivers will face criminal charges. These consequences are in place to protect our children and ensure their safety.

Nationwide, an estimated 17 million school bus stop-arm violations occur each year.

𝗔𝗟𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗦 stop for school buses with flashing red lights, no matter which direction you’re traveling.
